Like a drunk version of Wong Kar-wai’s classics, but set in his birthplace of Shanghai instead of Hong Kong, it has the Master’s signature slashed all over it, with the pop philosophy and cooler-than-thou retro melancholy that defined Wong’s earlier films, but in a stunningly bizarre yet gorgeous package.
